SAN TAN VALLEY, AZ (CBS5) -
We first reported in July about a little girl in San Tan Valley who is battling a rare form of cancer.
Two donation jars 7-year-old Dakota Clark's family set up around the town were stolen, according to police.
Investigators said Peter Cardinale and Anthony Stuber took the jars.
Saturday, a young man from Northern Arizona decided that catching those two suspects was not good enough.
"I saw on the news that this little girl had her jug stolen," said Chance Barnes.
Often times a big idea, comes in a small package.
"I realized that I could help out that little girl," Chance said, "All I know is there is a lot of green in there."
Chance, 15, asked his dad to drive him all the way from Greer Arizona to San Tan Valley, to give Dakota Clark a gift. During the exchange at the Clark's home Saturday, Chance presented a donation jar of his own to Dakota Clark.
"I could take last month's donations from my donation jugs, put it in one jug and give it to her as a present," Chance said to Dakota Clark's dad, Jason Clark.
"Thank you so much, that means a lot," replied Jason Clark.
"You're very welcome sir," said Chance.
Chance is an Eagle Scout and he's also been raising money in donation jars to get to this year's Boy Scout Jamboree in West Virginia.
"She's very brave," said Chance, talking about Dakota Clark.
Today he proved that his over 90 decorated merit badges are more than recognition, they are a way of life.
"Seeing her smile and seeing her happy, it's amazing," said Jason Clark.
"I want her to know that there are not only bad people out there, there are good people out there that do good things," Chance said.
Dakota Clark's family said she has a rare form of cancer called Burkitt's Lymphoma.
Saturday, TGI Friday's in Mesa at 1720 South Power Rd. said they would donate part of customer's dinner bill to the Clark family until 11 p.m.
