A Paradise Valley High School teacher has been busted for allegedly having sex with a 17-year-old student. Police said that the student's mother was OK with the relationship.
"It's kind of surprising because he didn't seem like he'd do anything like that, he seemed like a good teacher too. We had a sub today and I just thought he was sick or something, I didn't know," sophomore Tyler Vandenheuval said.
"I think that's sad, I mean, I don't think people should be doing that kind of thing, especially from a teacher to a student," sophomore Ernesto Rocha said.
Jordan Donesky was an English and journalism teacher. He was hired in 2009.
"We got the information late Wednesday and we reported it first thing Thursday to Phoenix police," district spokesperson Marty Macurak said.
Macurak said the school got a tip from a concerned parent about the situation.
Police say the 26-year-old carried on the relationship with the 17-year-old for several months.
"The interesting thing about this case is her mother became aware of the activity going on and allowed it to continue," said Phoenix Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson.
"I really don't see why any mom would let her daughter get into that, especially with her teacher," said Rocha.
Donesky was arrested at home Thursday night.
"I just saw seven cops come up and my neighbor walk out in handcuffs," his next door neighbor, Kendra Hamilton said.
The district says they don't have any reason to believe that Donesky had any other sexual relations with students. He is now on paid administrative leave.
The mother of the teenager was also arrested and faces charges.
