MESA, AZ (CBS5) -
A suspect was caught by gang units after witnesses say he robbed a Fry's grocery store.
The suspect, identified as Adam Diaz, walked into Fry's located at 1245 W. Main St. in Mesa on Wednesday night where he allegedly robbed a cashier at knife point.
Diaz put the knife he used and the money in a plastic Fry's bag before leaving the store. The store manager tried stopping Diaz as he was leaving but wound up getting punched in the face by Diaz as he was struggling to get away.
In the struggle Diaz dropped the bag with both the money and knife inside as he fled the store.
A witness called the Mesa police to report the crime. That witness also followed Diaz as he fled allowing police to get to the area and arrest him.
