TUCSON, AZ (CBS5) -

A 27-year-old man from Mexico was sentenced to 10 years in a U.S. prison Monday for leading illegal immigrants into the country, a journey in which one person died, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Joaquin Villaseñor-Chavez, from Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico, was convicted in U.S. District Court on one count of transporting an illegal alien for profit which resulted in death and 10 counts of conspiracy to bring in and transport an illegal immigrant for profit.

Willcox Border Patrol agents came across the group of 11 people, including the dead person, on June 16, 2011, near Saint David.

Villaseñor-Chavez was identified as a foot guide, or "coyote," who led the group.

He was sentenced to 120 months in prison for each count - to run concurrently - and an additional eight years of supervised release.
