GLENDALE, AZ (CBS5) -
The victim from Monday's shooting is already home from the hospital, but he is still a little shaken up.
He agreed to share his terrifying story but did not want to be identified.
"I consider myself very lucky," he said.
He's very lucky to be alive.
The 31-year-old was on his way home Monday at about noon when he spotted his friend's stolen Toyota Tundra.
It pulled into a Circle K in Glendale where he snapped a picture and sent it to his friend to make sure.
"I asked him what he'd like me to do. He said, 'If you can just call 911 and let them know approximately where you're at so they could get a unit in there,'" he recounted to CBS 5 Tuesday afternoon.
So he did that and continued to follow the truck to get the plates while he was on the phone with 911.
They were in the neighborhood of 49th Avenue and olive when the two guys in the stolen truck started driving erratically.
"I was thinking that he's on to us and that we should probably back off in case they happened to be dangerous people."
He was right.
He backed off and after a couple minutes, thought he was getting away.
"Soon as I turned around the corner, they were coming the opposite direction, right at us," he said.
He says that's when the two men inside the truck started screaming, flipped a U-turn and pulled up right behind him ready to shoot.
"I could see the passenger hanging out of the side of the vehicle with the gun perched on the side of the rear-view mirror or the side-view mirror, and it was pointed right at us," he said.
He hit the throttle and heard the gunshot.
"I felt just a burning sensation in my back," he said.
The bullet fractured a shoulder bone and is still lodged in his back.
Glendale police quickly caught up with Alexander Femino and his passenger Donald Garwood and took them into custody.
"You try to be helpful and there's crazy people out there," said the shooting victim.
The two men arrested have long criminal records.
They now face several charges including possession of a stolen motor vehicle, reckless discharge of a firearm and prohibited possession of a firearm.
