FORT HUACHUCA, AZ (CBS5) -

Army officials at Fort Huachuca have released the name of a soldier found dead at a hotel near the southern Arizona base.

Base officials said the body of 28-year-old Pvt. Christopher J. Perez was discovered Tuesday afternoon in a Sierra Vista hotel room.

The cause of death is being investigated by Sierra Vista police and the Fort Huachuca's Criminal Investigation Command.

Perez is from Schulenburg, TX, and had been in the Army since May 2004 as a cable systems installer-maintainer.

Fort Huachuca Public Affairs Officer Tanya Linton said Perez had been assigned to the 40th Expeditionary Signal Battalion since March 2010.
