MOHAVE VALLEY, AZ (CBS5) -

A Mohave County Jail detention officer has been arrested for allegedly giving a inmate an unauthorized strip search.

The Mohave County Sheriff's Office said Shannon Correll, 25, was charged with one count of unlawful sexual conduct in a correctional facility and one count of false imprisonment. Correll was arrested at his Bullhead City home Monday.

MCSO spokesperson Trish Carter said they learned that a woman arrested Aug. 4 in a domestic violence incident had been strip searched at the Mohave Valley substation jail facility - a type of search that is prohibited by jail policy.

Carter said their investigation found that during the booking process, sometime after 4 a.m., Correll performed the search and made inappropriate comments to her.

Correll made his initial court appearance Tuesday morning and a $10,000 bond was set.

Carter said Correll was also fired Tuesday morning.
