Sheriff Joe Arpaio to speak to GOP delegates in Tampa - CBS 5 - KPHO

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio will speak to Republican National Convention delegates in Tampa this month. He won't be speaking at the convention hall but at a special reception at the city's zoo.

According to a news release from the state's Republican Party, the self-proclaimed "toughest sheriff in the country" will address delegates from western states at the Lowrey Park Zoo on Aug. 30.

"Sheriff Joe is a good friend and a great Republican, a former member of the Electoral College representing Arizona, and he's wildly popular not just in Maricopa County but throughout the state and the country," said Tom Morrissey, chairman of the Arizona Republican Party. "He's done a lot for the Republican Party already and we're overjoyed that as always he is willing to join us as we visit some of our ‘fellow elephants' while in Tampa."

The event is invitation-only.
