ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Mary Hewston tried to fix her mailbox on Monday after someone destroyed it over the weekend.
"You just don't go around and destroy people's property because you're in a gang or whatever you are into. I don't know," Hewston said.
"What happened? What happened?" neighbor Altamese Baptiste asked.
It's a Tough Question several homeowners were asking along Lynhurst Drive in southwest Atlanta.
"No one heard anything, no one saw anything, all we knew is there were about 15 to 20 mailboxes that had been literally kicked over," Baptiste said.
Vandals damaged several mailboxes late Friday night, leaving homeowners with the mess.
"I have been told by my insurance company that it will not be covered and that I will have to fix that and repair that myself," Baptiste said.
CBS Atlanta News contacted Atlanta police about the incident and they are investigating. They've also picked up patrols in the area.
"Most of people here are retired. No one's bothering anyone. So why would you target this area?" Baptiste said.
"I just pray to God that whoever did this will pay for it," Hewston said.
Atlanta police said a total of 31 mailboxes were damaged in the area over the weekend. No arrests have been made.
