Joseph Henderson is suspected of leaving behind a pair of sunglasses after a bank robbery in Peoria that led to his arrest.
PEORIA, AZ (CBS5) -
A lone fingerprint on a pair of sunglasses was enough for Peoria police to finger a bank robbery suspect.
Joseph Henderson, 34, was arrested at his home less than 24 hours after the sunglasses were found near a Chase Bank at 91st and Northern Avenues on Aug. 2, according to Amanda Jacinto, a Peoria police spokeswoman.
The robber had already escaped by jumping a block wall into a nearby neighborhood - and dropping his sunglasses in the process - when police arrived, Jacinto said.
Fingerprints are in large part water-based and can quickly degrade in Arizona's stifling triple-digit summer heat, but in typical CSI television fashion, police were able to preserve the fingerprint, Jacinto said.
Technicians remove the print from the glasses using a "fuming" technique and ran it through a statewide database for a positive match.
Police said a search warrant was served at Henderson's home, where the stolen money was recovered, Jacinto said.
