PHOENIX (CBS5) -
Getting past those long custom lines at the airport may be a thing of the past with Global Entry.
Global Entry will allow clearance through customs with this voluntary program that allows pre-approved, low-risk travelers to enter the United States by using automated kiosks.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) first introduced Global Entry in June of 2008 at three airports. The program is now in the top 20 U.S international airports which includes Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport where an enrollment center opened on Tuesday.
There is an application process for Global Entry that includes an online application with a $100 application fee. Everyone who applies will go through a rigorous background check and an interview before being approved.
Those approved will receive a five year membership.
There is not a minimum number of trips a person must take to qualify for the program.
For more information or for those interested in applying for the program go to www.globalentry.gov.
