For the second time since July 22, a donation jar meant to help an Arizona girl battle cancer has been stolen from a Walgreens store, the Pinal County Sheriff's Office said.
Sheriff's investigators are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who walked into the Walgreens at 333 East Hunt Hwy. on Thursday, grabbed the jar and ran out as a store clerk chased after him.
The thief jumped into a waiting car and escaped.
The jar was one of about a dozen placed around the San Tan Valley area. The donations are meant to help the family of 7-year-old Dakota Clark, who was diagnosed in May with a rare form of cancer called Burkitt's lymphoma.
"We kind of consider the donations bins food money," said Dakota's father, Jason Clark.
The financial burden places "a lot of pressure" on the family trying to pay for expensive medications, Clark said.
The family had emptied the jar the day before, so the man escaped with very little money, sheriff's investigators said.
On July 22, a similar theft occurred at a nearby Walgreens at 3111 West Hunt Hwy. A different man walked into the store and left after taking a similar donation jar.
In both cases the jars were left next to the cash register. Both suspects remain at large.
