A miniature horse was found dead Wednesday morning inside a fenced arena at a home in southern Arizona, the Cochise County Sheriff's Office said.
Sheriff's deputies and animal control officers located the horse in the 10,000 block of South Hutchinson Road in Palominas just before 8 a.m.
Authorities said they found apparent bite marks and lacerations on the body. The horse's owner said the animal had been in good health in the arena Tuesday night.
Tracks around the horse indicated that at least one dog apparently ran after the animal throughout the arena, sheriff's deputies said. The horse was unable to escape and was attacked and killed.
If the dog or dogs behind the attack are located, the owner will face several misdemeanor animal control violations.
