MESA, AZ (CBS5) -
A 24-year-old man has been arrested in South Carolina in connection with a woman's kidnapping Aug. 10 at Mesa Main Library, police said.
Alonzo Robles was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshall's Office on Saturday afternoon.
Police credit numerous crime tips and evidence linking Robles to the crime scene for the man's arrest.
Robles approached the woman outside the library asking for a ride to the Greyhound station, police said. The woman agreed, but once they were in the car, Robles pulled a knife and stabbed her, officers said.
Robles then demanded the victim drive him to an undisclosed location, officers said. Robles eventually forced the woman to pull over and he tied her up, forcing her to lie on the backseat, according to Sgt. Tony Landato of the Mesa Police Department.
Landato said Robles got into the driver's seat and drove the victim to a remote location south of Florence off of Highway 79. The woman was forced from the vehicle and told to lie in the brush, Landato said.
Robles, who said he was going to go to Tucson, walked to the highway and possibly waved down a passing motorist, hitching a ride, Landato said. The woman was able to free herself and is recovering from her injuries.
