Lightning struck this house in Maricopa
Two bales of hay burn after a lightning strike in Maricopa.
MARICOPA, AZ (CBS5) -
Lightning from a storm that blew through the area was blamed for a house fire and a hay fire in the community of Maricopa on Wednesday morning.
A couple was asleep in their home on the 17000 block of North Smith Drive when they heard a loud noise, looked up and saw a crack in their ceiling and roof with the red glow of fire just before 4 a.m. Wednesday, according to Brad Pitassi with the Maricopa Fire Department.
Pitassi said fire crews were at the home within five minutes, and prevented the flames from spreading. The homeowners will have to find a place to stay while their roof is replaced.
One bolt of lightning hit two bales of hay at a cattle farm near Highway 238 and White and Park Road about five miles southeast of Maricopa.
Pitassi said it was the third fire at the same site this year and the second in as many weeks. He said
The fire was reported just before 4 a.m. Wednesday.
No other information was immediately available.
