Canadians crossing the border to go to Costco

BELLINGHAM, WA (KPTV) -

Inexpensive milk has contributed to a border war between America and Canada, with one Washington town at the center of it.

The Costco store in Bellingham, WA is being flooded by Canadian shoppers looking to take advantage of cheaper prices and the high Canadian dollar, according to a CBC News report.

Vancouver suburbs are just 25 minutes away, so it's a quick trip to save money on gasoline and groceries.

American shoppers, however, aren't welcoming their neighbors to the north.

They say Canadian customers are turning the parking lot into a serious problem.

"I'm like, look, Canadian, Canadian, Canadian plates," said one shopper from Washington. "Costco is a nightmare, even on a Tuesday afternoon, when I'm like, 'don't these people work?'"

According to a report by Seattle's KIRO TV, Bellingham police said Costco is now paying for an off-duty officer to handle the parking lot crowd two days a week.
