Jeremiah Billie, 22, was booked into Tempe city Jail on one count of kidnapping and one count of attempted sexual assault.
TEMPE, AZ (CBS5) -
A witness courageously stopped an attack on a 29-year-old woman as she was walking home from the Mill Avenue District early Saturday morning, according to police.
Tempe police said the suspect, identified as Jeremiah Billie, 22, asked the victim for a light in the area of Sixth Street and Forest Avenue in Tempe around 3:15 a.m. Police said the victim lit the suspect's cigarette and then continued walking toward College Avenue.
Police said Billie grabbed the victim and forced her into a nearby alleyway. Police said Billie reportedly pushed the victim on the ground and pinned her arms down. During the attack, a passerby confronted the suspect and called 911.
Tempe police, with the help of ASU police, arrested Billie soon after and he was booked into Tempe city Jail on one count of kidnapping and one count of attempted sexual assault.
Police said the victim had minor injuries.
