Phoenix police said they arrested the driver of pick-up truck suspected of jumping a curb and critically injuring a pedestrian on a sidewalk early Sunday morning.
David Kerhoulas, 25, was arrested at the scene near Seventh Street just south of Thunderbird Road, near where a 32-year-old man and his wife were walking on the sidewalk after hiking in the North Mountain Preserve.
The truck rolled over the curb and struck the man just after 7 a.m. He was hospitalized with severe head injuries. His wife was not hurt.
Kerhoulas was booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail on suspicion of aggravated assault and endangerment. Police said Kerhoulas was impaired.
The truck's driver and three passengers remained at the scene until police arrived.
Police said the investigation was continuing.
