Perla Morales
TUCSON, AZ (CBS5/AP) -
A mother fatally shot her 17-month-old son and 4-year-old daughter and then injured herself, police said.
Tucson police declined to release the suspected motive behind Saturday night's shooting and declined to explain specifically how 25-year-old Perla Morales carried out her self-inflicted injury.
Richard Rosovich Jr., 17 months old, died at his home in the 900 block of West Calle Colado, while 4-year-old Emma Rosovich was pronounced dead shortly after at a hospital, said Tucson police Sgt. Maria Hawke.
Morales was booked on two counts of first-degree murder after she was released from a hospital where she was treated for her injuries.
Detectives from the Dependent Child Unit as well as the Night Detective Unit responded to further the investigation. They examined and collected evidence at the scene as well as canvassed the neighborhood for potential witnesses.
Initial indications were that the mother of the children was home alone with them when the incident occurred. While in the home, she retrieved a handgun and shot both of her children.
