FLAGSTAFF, AZ (CBS5/AP) -
A 26-year-old Flagstaff man has died after being struck by a train.
Flagstaff Police Sgt. James Jackson said officers had been looking for Ned Sherman Dugi for about an hour Wednesday night before he was hit by the train.
Jackson said Dugi had been involved in a domestic dispute earlier in the evening and when Dugi was fleeing the area where the dispute happened, he almost struck family members with his car.
Witnesses told police that they saw a shadow in front of the train but believed that it was an animal. The realization that the shadow actually was a person crawling into the path of the train came too. As a result, there were only seconds left leaving them unable to blow the train's horn.
Officers and investigators are still investigating the circumstances surrounding how Dugi ended up on the tracks where he was hit by the train.
