PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A candlelight vigil is scheduled for Thursday to remember Dewight Westbrook, who was gunned down while walking with his girlfriend in Laveen on July 9.

The remembrance will take place at 7 p.m. at 51st Avenue and Baseline Road.

Westbrook, 18, was walking along 51st Avenue near West Baseline Road with his girlfriend about 9:30 p.m. when a man in a black "hoodie" walked up behind them and fired, striking only Westbrook, police said.

Two friends walking ahead of Westbrook and his girlfriend ran for safety and called police, but could provide no further description of the suspect or which direction he ran, police said.

The investigation is continuing and Phoenix police are asking that anyone with information please call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
