PHOENIX (CBS5) -
Motorists in the west Valley will face a two-month closure of Northern Avenue between Cotton Lane and Sarival Avenue, the Arizona Department of Transportation said.
A $65.1 million project begins Aug. 20 to upgrade Loop 303 between Glendale and Peoria avenues into a six-lane freeway.
During the closure, crews will reconstruct the intersection at Loop 303 and Northern Avenue. Drivers who normally use Northern Avenue in that area should plan on using either Olive or Glendale avenues as alternative routes.
Once Northern Avenue is ready to reopen, similar 60-day closures of Olive and Peoria avenues will be scheduled this fall.
The project is scheduled for completion in fall 2013.
ADOT plans to complete all the ongoing work to widen Loop 303 between Interstate 10 and Grand Avenue, including a freeway-to-freeway interchange at I-10, by fall 2014.
