PHOENIX (CBS5) -
A hiker says he got on the wrong path on Camelback Mountain and had to be rescued, the second hiker helped off the mountain Tuesday.
Steve Amren, a visitor from San Antonio, TX, said he set out on his hike on Echo Canyon Trail around 5:30 p.m. when he got lost and eventually suffered severe dehydration in the extreme Arizona heat.
"I just got up on the wrong path, and I got into an area where I couldn't get out because I was too tired," Steve Amren, who was not injured, just dehydrated.
Fire crews got the call after 8 p.m. and they got him down just before 11 p.m.
Tuesday's temperatures reached a record-tying 112 degrees in Phoenix.
Rescuers initially thought they might have to airlift Amren out since he got stuck in a ravine, but rescuers were able to walk him down and hydrated him intravenously.
Amren said he drank two liters of water but it just wasn't enough. He said his advice was to bring three times that amount.
Amren was wearing long-legged jeans, but did not have a flashlight.
There was no information made available about the first rescue Tuesday.
