Business leaders: Keep your commitment to the Valley

Posted: Updated:
TEMPE, AZ (CBS5) -

Several east Valley business leaders are asking U.S. Airways to keep its commitment to the Valley.

The group wants the airline to stay in Tempe even if the proposed merger with American Airlines becomes reality.

U.S. Airways leaders said if the merger goes through, the headquarters would likely move to Texas.

In the Valley, that means hundreds of workers would be let go and Valley businesses would take a hit.

"This is about fiscal responsibility.  We must call on them today to say, 'Look, we invested in you, now you invest in us,'" said Paradise Valley City Council member and Congressional candidate Vernon Parker.

Organizers of the event said over the years the Valley has invested millions of dollars in the airline and now they're just asking the company to repay the favor.
