PHOENIX (CBS5) -
Temperatures in the Phoenix area are expected to reach up to 115 degrees this week.
The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning through Wednesday evening that covers Phoenix, Casa Grande, Gila Bend and Wickenburg. Forecasters said residents should limit their outside activity and drink plenty of water to avoid heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Afternoon temperatures are expected to range from 110 to 115 degrees, with nighttime temperatures briefly falling below 90 degrees.
Southwestern Arizona, including Yuma, is expected to see temperatures of up to 116 degrees this week. An excessive heat watch is in effect there through Wednesday evening as well.
