PHOENIX (CBS5) -
We know it gets hot here in the desert during the summer, but even hotter-than-normal temperatures are forecast this week.
Most of central Arizona is under an excessive heat warning through at least Wednesday. The National Weather Service issues these types of warnings based on a number of factors - the average high and low temperature, how hot it was on that particular date in the past and if the average temperature for the day (the afternoon high and the morning low) is at or above 100 degrees.
Highs through midweek will run in the 110- to 115-degree range, and overnight lows will only bottom out around 90 degrees, hence the excessive heat warning. Our "normal" high and low temperatures are 105 degrees and 84 degrees, respectively.
