CHANDLER, AZ (CBS5) -

The Chandler City Council has approved a settlement of nearly $100,000 for the family of a man killed in a crash during a police chase.

The family of Alex Ahmad filed a $17 million wrongful death lawsuit in 2008 against three law enforcement agencies.

They claim the chase was unnecessary and failed to follow pursuit policy.

Chandler will pay $99,999 to Ahmad's family.

The 24-year-old Ahmad was killed while police were chasing a suspected Tempe bank robber on Dec. 5, 2007.

Investigators said 25-year-old Richard Schwartz's vehicle was going 113 mph when it hit Ahmad's car. Schwartz also was killed instantly.
