PHOENIX (AP) -

With all the floods that have hit the Valley over the last few days, many people are left wondering if their home insurance will cover the damage.

Traditional homeowners' policies don't cover some types of flood damage. Instead, homeowners have to go through the National Flood Insurance Program.

State Farm Spokesman Robert Villegas said flooding caused by surface overflow, like runoff from rivers or creeks, is not covered by traditional insurance, but there are other types of damage that are covered.

"Sometimes a tree will crash into your house and rain will pour in or you'll have other types of damage caused by high winds that rip the roof off somebody's home," Villegas said.

He recommends Valley residents visit FloodSmart.gov where they can enter their address and see the risk their homes are in.
