PHOENIX (AP) -
An Arizona death row inmate scheduled to be executed next week for two gruesome murders committed 25 years ago in Lake Havasu City is seeking clemency.
A petition filed by lawyers for Daniel Cook say he was sexually and physically abused as a young person and denied the chance to plead for leniency before being sentenced.
However, a prosecutor says Cook killed for the thrill of it and now deserves to die for the murders of two co-workers who included a 16-year-old boy.
Both victims were raped, and one was tortured by Cook and another man who has been released from prison after serving a 20-year prison.
A state board considers Cook's clemency petition on Friday. He's asking to have his death sentence changed to no-release life in prison.
