ANTHEM, AZ (CBS5) -
Raging water in a wash knocked down a block wall, sending floodwater through two homes in Anthem on North Erickson Way off Gavilan Peak Parkway on Tuesday evening.
At the height of the downpour, a woman who lived in one of the homes heard someone pounding on her back door.
"He was like, 'Jeannette, we're in trouble.' He was yelling. And I was like, 'What's going on?" said Jeannette.
It was her neighbor. Behind Jeannette's home, pressure was building against a block wall as the nearby wash began to rise. Neighbors said the water was level with the eight-foot fence.
Jeannette was standing by the fence when it collapsed.
"It broke and the wall started coming toward me. I turned around and I ran. The water overcame me and it knocked me down and I was swimming," said Jeannette.
She said the raging water sucked her under. For a moment she was trapped beneath a hot tub but managed to get her bearings and climb on top of it. From there she was able to grab on to a fence and make it to dry ground.
"I made it and I'm very thankful. I thank God that I'm OK," said Jeannette.
