PHOENIX (CBS5) -

With summer time coming to an end, it means school will soon be back in session. And with that, one of the biggest priorities is protecting the children.

A key way of protecting them is guarding them as they are crossing city streets.

The 45th Annual School Crossing Guard Training will be taking place to train those who help guide children safely across the city streets. The training will include presentations, demonstrations and videos from a variety of experts as the busy back to school season begins.

There will be more than 400 school crossing guards training with representatives from fire, police and street transportation departments. The training program has been made possible by the cities of Phoenix, Mesa, Peoria, Scottsdale, Glendale and Avondale, and the Maricopa Association of Governments.

Training sessions are held from 8 a.m. to noon on three different days; the first being on Tuesday at Sunnyslope High School Auditorium. The second session will be held on Thursday in the Mesa Education Center in Mesa, and the third will be held on Aug. 7 at the Rio Vista Recreation Center in Peoria.
