PHOENIX (AP/CBS5) -

The Arizona Supreme Court is ordering a lower court to hold a hearing on a death row inmate's request to skip further appeals and be executed quickly for a series of random murders in the Phoenix area.

The state high court's order sends Dale Shawn Hausner's case back to Maricopa County Superior Court.

Hausner filed a pleading with the court stating he wants all further appeals waived, he doesn't want his appointed counsel to represent him, he doesn't want to pursue post-conviction relief and he wants the court to issue an order of execution as quickly as possible, according to court records.

The high court has ordered the superior court to consider whether Hausner is competent to waive further appeals and whether Hausner made the request knowingly and voluntarily.

The Supreme Court also ordered a special counsel to represent Hausner about his decisions to end the review of his case and proceed to execution, according to court documents.

The court also ruled to continue a motion that extends time on the case until the superior court makes its decision.

Hausner was convicted in the so-called "serial shooter" case. He faces death sentences on six counts of first-degree murder.

Hausner made his request after the Supreme Court ruled on an automatic appeal and upheld his death sentences.
