A former Air Force Sergeant from New Mexico was arrested Thursday for allegedly possessing child pornography.
A federal grand jury indicted Christopher Garcia, 33, on three counts of receiving child porn pornography and three counts of possessing it.
According to indictment records, Garcia received the material while serving as a sergeant in the Air Force sometime between Dec. 12, 2011 and Jan. 12.
Garcia was in court Friday morning and is scheduled to appear again July 30 for arraignment and a detention hearing, according to officials and he is being detained until then.
He faces up to a lifetime of supervised release and would have to register as a sex offender if convicted, authorities said.
The Clovis County Sheriff's Office, Homeland Security Investigation and the New Mexico Regional Computer Forensic laboratory conducted the investigation, U.S. Attorney Kenneth J. Gonzales said.
The prosecution was brought as part of the Project Sage Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child exploitation and abuse. It was also brought as part of the New Mexico Internet Crimes Against Children.
