A mental health patient has been arrested after he assaulted an Urgent Psychiatric Care facility employee and then escaped.

Phoenix Police Department Officer James Holmes said Robert Mitchell, 29, was in a private ambulance headed to another facility on Thursday night when he broke free of his restraints and assaulted a emergency medical technician.

Mitchell, who is considered violent, fled into the surrounding neighborhood.

Holmes said after an extensive search, Mitchell was arrested and booked on aggravated assault charges and two counts of first-degree trespass.
