BLACK CANYON CITY, AZ (CBS5) -
The off-duty Phoenix police officer killed in a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 17 Thursday has been identified.
Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Tommy Thompson has confirmed Detective Peter L. Tuchalski died in the fatal collision that happened at 3 p.m. Thursday on northbound I-17, just south of Black Canyon City.
Also injured in the wreck were and his wife and one of his two children, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.
Thompson said Tuchalski had more than 15 years with the Phoenix Police Department and was assigned to the Family Investigation Bureau, responsible for investigating domestic violence cases.
"Detective Tuchalski was a very hard working and dedicated officer who will be missed by all," said Thompson.
He is survived by his wife and their two teenage children.
DPS spokesman Carrick Cook said witnesses told authorities it appeared that a gust of wind caught the trailer that was in tow, causing it to strike a guardrail. The attached truck and trailer rolled over, Cook said.
