PHOENIX (CBS5) -
A 29-year-old man had to be rescued on Mount Elden after he fell into a cave and fractured his ankle on Wednesday, the Flagstaff Fire Department said.
Fire officials said he was climbing a bouldering area on the side of the mountain around 3 p.m. when he was injured.
He was stranded in a dangerous area and was unable to get down the cliffs with thunderstorms approaching, according to fire officials.
Flagstaff Fire and Guardian Medical Transport secured him in a rescue basket and lowered him down the 150-foot cliffs.
He was taken to Flagstaff Medical Center via ambulance.
The rescue operation took two hours and 14 emergency responders. None the responders were injured in the rescue operation.
