A grand jury has charged a Phoenix man of abusing and killing his 90-year-old mother in October 2010.
Gregory Nieciecki was apprehended on a felony arrest warrant charging him with one count of vulnerable adult abuse, one count of negligent homicide and domestic violence.
Nieciecki was the legal caretaker looking after his mother, Stella.
Stella Nieciecki, who had been suffering from dementia, was found to have been malnourished, suffering from sores due to poor hygiene and may have been dead in the home for several days prior to her son reporting her as ill, police said.
Phoenix fire determined that she was deceased.
Our detectives worked with the county coroner's office and county attorneys to establish probable cause to arrest Nieciecki and, after nearly 21 months of investigation, a grand jury determined the suspect should face charges for the offenses.
