GILBERT, AZ (CBS5) -

A gay Gilbert couple has been chosen as the grand marshals of the Family Unity and Pride Parade in Provincetown, MA, the Family Equality Council said.

Felix Bermea, his partner Roy Messerschmidt and their four children recently endured three months of threatening phone calls, property vandalism and break-ins to their home.

Bermea recently spoke out.

"My kids are being terrorized," he said. "My kids have no safe place and this is why we are wanting the Gilbert police to know that this is a very serious situation that's going on."

The family is being sponsored to attend this year's Family Week through generous donations during a recent fundraising campaign.

The 17th annual event, held from July 28 to Aug. 4 in Provincetown, MA, is the largest gathering of LGBT families in the country and comes as Family Equality Council celebrates its 30th anniversary.

Family Equality Council is a national organization that connects, supports and represents the 1 million parents who are lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) and the 2 million children they are raising.
