CASA GRANDE, AZ (CBS5) -

Casa Grande police officers used a stun gun on a man who punched an officer during booking procedures.

Salmineo Romero, 35, allegedly punched an officer in the face July 14 after being arrested for two misdemeanor city court warrants, police said.

The officer defended himself and two other officers assisted him, according to police, and one of the officers used a stun gun to subdue Romero.

Emergency Medical Services evaluated Romero and officers continued the booking process. The officer had a bloody and bruised nose, but he returned to work the same night, police said.

It is unknown why Romero attacked the officer.

Romero is facing charges of aggravated assault on a police officer and is being held at the Pinal County Adult Detention Facility.
