FLAGSTAFF, AZ (CBS5) -

A scam aimed at contractors has surfaced in the Prescott area, police said.

A man who identified himself as Bishop David emailed a contractor requesting work done on his house, police said.

In the email, David said he was sending a check for $10,000 and the contractor could keep $3,000. The rest of the money David said is for the house agent who will make the house available for remodeling, according to police.

The email is poorly written and has misspellings and improper grammar and language use, officers said.

Police are asking anyone who receives this email to ignore the request and report it to police.
