PD: Man accidentally shoots himself in the hand

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Mesa police said a 33-year-old man accidentally shot himself in the hand with a friend's handgun around noon Monday.

Jamie Lee Dubois told police the gun discharged when he slid back and released the slide on the .40-caliber Smith and Wesson handgun. The bullet struck his left hand, which was in front of the barrel.

Police said Dubois' friend was in another room when the shooting occurred.

Dubois was taken to Scottsdale Osborn Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police conducted and investigation and said it appeared the shooting was accidental.
