YUMA, AZ (AP) -
The Yuma Sector of the U.S. Border Patrol is getting a new division chief.
Officials announced Monday that Mario Villarreal is being promoted to division chief for operations and will assume the post this month.
They said Villarreal has 26 years of experience and will oversee the operational deployment, tactical and strategic planning of 1,000 agents for one of the nation's most complex Border Patrol sectors.
Prior to his assignment in Yuma, Villarreal served as an assistant chief patrol agent in Texas' Rio Grande Valley Sector and at Border Patrol headquarters in Washington, D.C.
Villarreal was born and raised in Chicago and graduated from the Border Patrol Academy in 1986.
