Sally Ride, first American woman in space
WASHINGTON (AP/CBS5) -
Sally Ride, America's first female astronaut, has died, according to The Associated Press.
Ride passed away Monday after a 17-month battle with pancreatic cancer, Sally Ride Science announced on its website.
NASA confirmed her death Monday afternoon and President Barack Obama called her a national hero.
Ride was 61 years old.
Ride completed her historic mission on the shuttle Challenger STS-7 on June 24, 1983, when she was 32.
