The Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating seven crashes from the weekend that took the lives of 10 people.
Motorcyclist Dallas Langham, 76, was killed in a five-vehicle crash on State Route 101 Saturday morning, authorities said. One vehicle hit the rear end of another vehicle that started a chain collision.
A driver of a GMC truck lost control of the vehicle after a tire failure Saturday afternoon on Interstate 17 near Anthem, officials said. The truck crossed over the median and hit a Ford pickup truck. A third vehicle struck the GMC.
The passengers in the GMC truck were thrown from the vehicle and the passenger of the Ford, Anthony Ghiho, 59, was pronounced dead, according to authorities.
James Nelson, 32, was pronounced dead at a local hospital after a collision on U.S. 180 near Springerville Saturday afternoon, police said. The vehicle went to the right for unknown reasons and rolled off the eastbound side of the road.
Two California residents were killed after their vehicle collided with the guardrail on Interstate 40. Nika Dawkins St. Claire, 62, and Savannah Dawkins, 27, fell 40 feet and landed on a train track, authorities said. Investigators believe the two occupants were deceased prior to being struck by a train.
The driver of a van carrying 12 passengers lost control of the vehicle after a tire failure on Interstate 40 near Holbrook early Sunday morning, authorities said.
Ovilho Perez Ortiz, 30, of Guatemala, and Audias Deleon Gonzalez, 18, of Mexico, were pronounced dead on scene. The driver fled the scene and the other passengers were not harmed, police said.
Two Oregon residents were killed Sunday afternoon while driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 near Kingman and was struck by vehicles attempting to pass a commercial vehicle, according to authorities.
Harvey Young, 87, was pronounced dead on scene and the passenger, Clara Young, 73, died at a hospital in Las Vegas, police said.
The passenger of truck on State Route 78 near New Mexico died after the vehicle traveled off the road and down an embankment for unknown reasons, police said. James Damron, 61, was pronounced dead on scene.
DPS said the crashes do not appear to be weather related.
