PHOENIX (CBS5) -
Phoenix firefighters called an overnight house fire suspicious after a note was found at the home near 70th Drive and Mariposa Street.
Fire investigators said there was some damage to the interior of the house, but would not go into detail.
Katherine Dano, a daughter of the home's owners, said most of the damage is in a bedroom toward the back of the house.
Dano told CBS 5 News her parents were out of state but were allowing a man to live in the home as a goodwill gesture. Dano said she was going to pick him up for a court appearance when she found the home damaged by the fire.
She confirmed there were notes left behind on the garage door and said one was unreadable, but the other was menacing and threatening.
"He made derogatory comments toward my family that are completely unfounded," Dano said. "There's also comment in the note toward the end of the note that was illegible that he was contemplating suicide."
She said there was "ammo" in one of the rooms but that it belonged to her parents and not the man. Firefighters extinguished the fire without the ammunition catching fire.
"There is ammunition stored in the house for some of the firearms that belong to my family," she said. "They are of course, to go along with the ammunition, reloading supplies. I can see if those went up it would be a little more dangerous."
She said the man was suspected in the damage but was nowhere to be found.
"I don't know what could have incited it. I don't understand," Dano said. "If he did start this, I don't understand why."
