AHWATUKEE, AZ (CBS5) -
Five men armed with handguns failed to rob an Ahwatukee jewelry store after people inside the store fought back, Phoenix police said.
Police said five black men armed with handguns walked into a jewelry store in the area of 4800 East Ray Road shortly after noon on Saturday. The men were wearing dark clothing, beanies, bandanas and partial masks.
There were nine people in the store at the time, including employees and customers.
Police said a fight broke out after several victims jumped some of the suspects. Two of the suspects unsuccessfully tried to tie up some of the victims.
Police said the resistance from the victims scared off the suspects and they fled without taking anything.
One of the victims, an older man, had some cuts to his face and a broken tooth, according to police.
No other injuries were reported.
Detectives said they were working to gather information about the suspects and their vehicles.
