Tucson may get more rain than usual in August

TUCSON, AZ (AP) -

Tucson's chances for August rain are looking up.

The Arizona Daily Star reports that the National Weather Service's Climate Prediction Center is forecasting higher-than-normal rainfall in its one-month outlook.

While the center, basing its conclusions on several forecasting models, expects most of the Southwest to see more rain than normal next month, the Midwest and Pacific Northwest are expected to see below-normal precipitation.

Normally, Tucson receives 2.39 inches of rain in August at Tucson International Airport.

So far in July, the site has recorded 4.07 inches of rain. That's 5.09 inches since Jan. 1, slightly more than one-half inch above normal for the year.

The rain is expected to continue this weekend before tapering down next week.
