PHOENIX (AP) -
Enforcement of a new Arizona law barring public funding for non-abortion health care provided by abortion providers apparently will be delayed.
The law is scheduled to take effect Aug. 2 but an attorney for the state's Medicaid program says lawyers for the state and Planned Parenthood Arizona are working out an agreement.
Attorney Logan Johnston says the agreement would temporarily put the law on hold to give a federal judge time to consider a request to block enforcement.
The judge has scheduled an October hearing in the case.
Arizona already bars using public money for abortion, but supporters of the new law say they want to ensure that there's no indirect support for abortions.
Planned Parenthood said the law would disrupt care for people needing services such as cancer screenings.
