PHOENIX (AP) -

The Arizona Attorney General's Office has asked the state's highest court to appoint an attorney for a man convicted in a series of random murders.

The office said it wants to be sure of Dale Hausner's desire to fast-track his execution.

Hausner wrote to the court earlier this week, saying he'd skip further appeals and wants an execution date set.

The state filed the motion Thursday and it asks that Hausner's case be sent back to Maricopa County Superior Court for a hearing.

Supreme Court spokeswoman Jennifer Liewer has said the court will not issue a warrant scheduling an execution until the attorney general's office requests one.

Hausner was convicted on six counts of first-degree murder in 2009 and was sentenced to death on each count.
