GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, AZ (CBS5) -
The woman who was found dead after plunging 300 feet over the edge of the South Rim at Grand Canyon National Park has been identified.
About 1:20 p.m. Thursday, the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a report that 68-year-old Rosa Torres Rios had fallen over the edge at Grandview Point.
Emergency responders determined the woman had actually fallen from the Grandview Trail.
Two other people, one a relative of the woman who fell, tried to revive the woman but were unable to find a pulse, according to Grand Canyon National Park spokeswoman Shannan Marcak.
Rangers rappelled the remainder of the distance to the woman and began CPR. However, their life-saving efforts proved unsuccessful.
The woman's body was flown to the canyon rim by helicopter and transferred to the Coconino County Medical Examiner's Office.
The victim's name, age and hometown weren't immediately released.
An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the National Park Service in cooperation with the Coconino County medical examiner.
